workshop: intro to modern calligraphy at t project
it was so much fun hosting a calligraphy workshop at t project this past march. i have only hosted calligraphy workshops at tea bar so far, so it was nice to switch things up a bit and push myself out of my comfort zone.
we held the class at t project in nw portland, run by the lovely teri gelber. teri is so sweet & made me feel right at home. she is a tea expert and mixes her special tea blends by hand in her studio space that we got to work in. teri just went to japan, where she posted beautiful pictures - see more on her instagram. i love her white rose tea blend, if you are into tea (like me!) you definitely need to check her stuff out, it’s such a treat. check out her website here.
her space sure is beautiful. the big windows fill her space with amazing natural light, perfect for pictures and setting the creative mood for the workshop. i loved how it filled the space. and you can see below her beautiful hanging that she made with dried flowers - the space is so inspiring and i feel so lucky that i could host a workshop in her space.
teri made special batches of tea for us and everyone got to try them throughout the two-hours we spent together learning. each participant got to choose their own little tea cup, they were all different! and so tiny. that was my favorite part. i always drink my tea in huge cups, like i can’t drink it fast enough, but it was so nice to savor the tea by taking the time to really smell it, hold it, and just appreciate it! what a reminder to appreciate the small things in life.
her studio also has a small gallery in it, where a local artist was showing pen & ink drawings - so it fit perfectly with my modern calligraphy class. maybe i will have my work up there someday!
hopefully, we’ll be back in her magical space to host another workshop next year. until then, check out my upcoming workshops here. i would love to see you at the next one! xo
